It's awesome to see Kanade playing more with excellent musicians... this group and Ear Candy Jazz Factory especially... and less at the mall to piped in music. She's earned it! So I'm still holing out hope that her and Hiromi Euhara will eventually do something together! GO KANADE !!
I'm hearing Tom Scholz of Boston in that guitar, Rie. I love it. Not sure if this was intentional but it sounds great to my 75 year old ears. Thank you so much for keeping it alive in everything you do. This is a great band. I sure wish I could be there to see them perform live. They sound great.
November 2024: After having listened to Miss Rie's newish, very interesting and very busy prog metal effort called "Area 51" and after noticing that she and her colleagues have brought Marie Fukai's "Run Up" to the live stage (I'm so thankful for that, you gorgeous Muses) I feel the need to return to this lovely tune. And I think, the urge is easy to comprehend. Because Kanade's smile says it all - she knows that she is part of something fantastic. - To be honest, I am not always happy with Miss Rie's guitar tone (the studio version of the song is well produced, but I prefer this stage performance, particularly because of the warmer guitar sound and the more nuanced modulation). However, what she is doing here can't be done any better; the experience is intense at several levels, from creativity over executive skills to passion - Miss Rie is obviously playing on home ground: The warmth of the intonation, the conversational, captivating articulation, the breathing phrases and sort of eloquent syntax - some of the most (in the best sense of the word) humanised, chanting electric guitar work (vox humana) I've ever heard. Moreover this is an extraordinary composition; I adore Miss Rie for her ability to design long substantial, evolving melody lines (a rare talent in today's popular music - another gifted composer and arranger in that respect is Kanade's father Masanori Sato) to keep the form consistently organic, without ever losing the inner tension. The harmonising creates a lovely, congenial atmosphere, the chord progression follows sort of emotional logic. To me this is not only a picturesque snapshot, a static soundscape, a reflection of land and water; Miss Rie rather tells a story. And every note indicates that this is a story of euphony; the phrases are connected perfectly, even the idea of the infinite melody is present in a way. And you know that the statement is valid as soon as the last remark closes the circle of themes. This is pure magic, the peak of musical expressiveness, this is an epitome of popular instrumental music. Such gem of a song without words as well as Miss Rie's playing remind me of other expressive rock music themes, and I don't hesitate to rank her among these exponents of accomplished electric guitar mastery. - We are blessed with being allowed to relish all of them. (Many thanks also to the ladies Marie Fukai and Rina Hoshino who reliably helped to make this happen.) Examples: Soft Machine - Black Velvet Mountain (1981) (Jenkins). Solo guitar: Allan Holdsworth ruclips.net/video/tQfBonisPgY/видео.html Bill Bruford - Adios a la Pasada (1977) (Bruford, Peacock). Solo guitar: Allan Holdsworth. First theme appearance at 3' 35", instrumental only from 7' 04" on. (Bill Bruford - the drummer of Yes, King Crimson, Earthworks; one of the most special percussionists in the history of popular music. I'm sure that Miss Sato knows about him, because she and her mates did "Roundabout" by Yes for the NHK edutainment serial "Musica Piccolino".) ruclips.net/video/TaoQPmTF7zk/видео.html
Focus - Sylvia (1973) (van Leer). Solo guitar: Jan Akkerman. ruclips.net/video/OznS7X9BOxs/видео.html Frank Gambale - Circular Quay (2000) (Gambale). Solo guitar: Frank Gambale. ruclips.net/video/PrLq1v3MH8k/видео.html Genesis - Firth of Fifth (1973) (Banks, Collins, Gabriel, Hackett, Rutherford). Solo guitar: Steve Hackett. Flute theme exposition at 3' 28", guitar solo theme reappearance (reprise) at 6' 24" (sentiment overflow...). ruclips.net/video/NRygkSV7OzY/видео.html
Esto definitivamente tiene mas progresivo que el mismo metal progresivo , desde top runner hasta ahora en world journey 2 esta alineacion es la que mas a sobresalido para mi gusto 👍
I love what you play on the guitar. I love you, Rie.

I listened to this beautiful song many times over on my 8-hour drive through 4 different states.... it is spirited, soothing & super cool!
